Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter with its detachable USB-C cable

Our verdict

The charger to buy for a second Switch 2 dock or to replace a lost one: it is the adapter Nintendo makes and tests, it comes with its cable and there is no wattage to check. Skip it if you want one charger for the console and a phone, because it has a single output.

Our analysis

Next to the Belkin 65 W dual charger, Nintendo's adapter trades a second port for certainty: Nintendo's own charging steps use it with the Switch 2 dock, while Belkin's page never mentions the dock or TV mode. If the charger is going to stay behind the TV, this is the one to get; if it travels in a bag with a phone, the Belkin covers both devices.

What stands out

  • It connects to the console or to the Switch 2 dock, per Nintendo's store page, so it works as the adapter for a second dock or as a straight replacement.
  • The adapter and its cable separate, which makes it pack flatter in a drawer or a bag.
  • Nintendo lists it for the first Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED as well, so one adapter can serve an older console in the same house.
  • No wattage to check: Nintendo's rule of 54 W or more applies to adapters from other brands, and this is the licensed one.

Where it falls short

It has a single output, so it charges one device at a time. Nintendo's store page does not publish its wattage, its size or its warranty; ChargerLab describes it as a 60 W charger, but that figure comes from the lab, not from Nintendo.

Look elsewhere if

You want one charger for the console and your phone on a trip: the Belkin 65 W charger has two USB-C ports, paired with the Belkin 60 W cable. And if you only charge in handheld mode at home, Nintendo says the Switch 1 adapter does that.

We compare it with Belkin's charger and cable, against Nintendo's 54 W rule and ChargerLab's tests, in our guide to the charger the Switch 2 needs.
