Our verdict
The charger to carry in a backpack: one small charger for the Switch 2 and a phone or controller, with 65 W from a single port. Skip it if the charger will only feed the dock, because Nintendo's adapter comes with its cable and Belkin says nothing about TV mode.
Our analysis
Against Nintendo's Switch 2 AC adapter, the Belkin charger adds a second USB-C port and a travel size of 39 x 40 x 69 mm with folding prongs, but it leaves the cable out of the box and says nothing about the dock. It suits a backpack; Nintendo's adapter suits the space behind the TV.
What stands out
- Up to 65 W from one port, per Belkin. That is above the 54 W Nintendo sets for adapters from other brands, and above the 60 W at which ChargerLab saw TV mode start in its dock test.
- Two USB-C ports: Belkin gives 45 W and 20 W when you charge the Switch and controllers or headphones, so they can charge together.
- Belkin lists phones, iPads and MacBooks besides the Switch 2, so it can replace a phone charger in the same bag.
- A 2-year warranty from Belkin.
Where it falls short
The box holds only the charger, so you need a USB-C cable such as the Belkin 60 W cable. With two devices plugged in, the top port tops out at 45 W and the other at 20 W, both under Nintendo's 54 W and ChargerLab's 60 W, so on a dock it should charge the console alone. Those are ceilings, not what the console draws: ChargerLab measured 16 to 20 W going into the Switch 2 in the dock with the 60 W-plus chargers that started TV mode. Belkin does not state that Nintendo licenses it.
Look elsewhere if
The charger will only ever feed the dock: Nintendo's adapter comes with its cable, is the one Nintendo tests and has no power split to think about.
We line it up against Nintendo's adapter and Belkin's cable, with Nintendo's 54 W rule and ChargerLab's tests, in our guide to the charger the Switch 2 needs.
