WD_BLACK SN850P 2TB NVMe SSD - Officially Licensed PS5 Storage Expansion

Our analysis

Same license, same pre-fitted heatsink and the same two-screw install as the WD_BLACK SN850P 1TB; the difference is capacity, 2 TB against 1. A standard PS5 leaves about 667 GB usable, so this one adds about three times that. It is the PS5 storage expansion you can buy without researching Sony's requirements.

What stands out

• About three times the usable space. 667 GB usable fits five or six big games at 80 to 150 GB each; with 2 TB more you stop deleting one to download the next.
• The right heatsink, already on. The PS5 requires a heatsink on its expansion drive, and this one comes with it, so there is no guessing whether a third-party part fits the slot.
• No speed guesswork. The license means you do not have to check whether it meets Sony's speed requirements.
• Standard M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe. Unscrew the slot cover, fasten the drive with one screw and the console takes care of the rest.

Where it falls short

• If the budget does not stretch, a compatible 1 TB drive with a heatsink and at least 5500 MB/s of rated read speed also works.
• On a PC, the license and the heatsink add nothing: a standard Gen4 drive covers the same need.

Look elsewhere if

• Your console is a Switch 2: you need the Samsung microSD Express 256GB instead, because that console only takes microSD Express cards for games. If what your PS5 setup is missing is a place to dock the console and charge controllers, the OIVO stand holds it upright and charges two DualSense controllers at once.
