HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless gaming headset, front view

Our verdict

Weeks of battery: up to 300 hours per charge by HyperX's rating, 50 mm drivers, memory foam pads and a detachable mic that works for classes by day and games by night. It connects over a 2.4 GHz dongle only, with no Bluetooth.

Our analysis

Put it next to the Logitech G535 Lightspeed and the battery is the whole story: HyperX rates this one at up to 300 hours per charge, Logitech rates the G535 at 33. Both connect over a 2.4 GHz dongle; the HyperX adds 50 mm drivers against 40 mm and a mic you can pull off, where the G535 flips its mic up to mute. It is the headset for people who hate charging things.

What stands out

  • Up to 300 hours of battery. At ten hours a day, that is about a month between charges, so the headset is rarely the thing that dies halfway through a match.
  • 50 mm dual-chamber drivers. HyperX lists a range of 15 Hz to 21 kHz, and DTS Headphone:X surround for games that support it.
  • Detachable noise-cancelling mic. One headset covers classes and calls by day and Discord at night, and you can pull the mic off when you only want to listen.
  • Memory foam, leatherette pads and a closed back. A closed-back design lets less sound out than an open one, which matters in a shared room late at night.

Where it falls short

  • HyperX lists a noise-cancelling mic and nothing more about it; for streaming, plan on a separate microphone.
  • Its spec sheet lists only 2.4 GHz wireless through a USB dongle, with no Bluetooth, so pairing it with a phone is not part of the deal.

Look elsewhere if

  • Positional audio in shooters is your top priority: the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro is our esports pick and adds Bluetooth 5.2, though its battery is rated at 70 hours. If you split time between PC and consoles, the Turtle Beach Stealth 600 works with PS5, PS4, Switch and PC.
