Our verdict
A desk-clamp scissor arm that puts the capsule close to your mouth and keeps the desk clear. Its listing rates it for 1.5 kg, more than double the 616 g of the Logitech G Yeti GX.
Our analysis
At 616 g, the Logitech G Yeti GX uses well under half of this arm's 1.5 kg rating, so the load is not what limits it. What it changes is distance: it clamps to the edge of your desk and brings the capsule close to your mouth while keeping the desk clear.
What stands out
- Distance, not just height. Shure's guide for the original MV7 asks for 1 to 6 inches between your mouth and the mic. A stand sitting on the desk usually leaves it farther than that; the arm lets you close the gap.
- Rated for 1.5 kg. The 616 g Yeti GX and the 573.5 g MV7+ each use less than half of it, according to the listing's rating.
- Steel scissor build with a 360° base and 180° of arm travel. You can swing the mic in when you talk and push it aside when you are done, and it folds back flat when you stop recording.
- A 270° metal adapter and a clip that opens to 28 mm. Enough angle to aim the capsule at your voice. Ignore the Blue Snowball note on the box; it is not limited to that mic.
Where it falls short
- The clamp has to bite onto a desk edge. A thick glass top, or a desk pushed flat against the wall, can leave it with nowhere to bite, so measure before you order.
- InnoGear's own site shows a larger arm rated at 4.4 lb; the 1.5 kg figure here is the rating on this model's listing.
Look elsewhere if
- You do not own a microphone yet: the arm is the second purchase, not the first. The FIFINE AM8 has both USB and XLR. If your voice is the product, as in podcasts or interviews, the Shure MV7+ is the next tier, and at 573.5 g it sits within this arm's rating.
