Our verdict
The streamer's USB mic: a cardioid condenser with Clipguard, which Elgato designs to stop a shout from clipping, and the Wave Link mixer to split game, music, Discord and voice in OBS. Being a condenser, it picks up more room noise than a dynamic mic.
Our analysis
The HyperX QuadCast 2 is also a USB-C condenser with a headphone jack for monitoring, but it offers four polar patterns where the Wave:3 MK.2 sticks to cardioid. What Elgato adds instead is software and processing: Clipguard inside the mic and the Wave Link mixer on the PC. It is the USB microphone built around a streamer's workflow, recording at 24-bit / 48 kHz per its spec sheet.
What stands out
- Clipguard 2.0. Elgato says a dedicated chip works in 32-bit floating point inside the mic to keep a sudden shout from clipping, so you keep the loud moments without riding the gain.
- Wave Link mixer. Game, music, Discord and your voice become separate channels inside OBS, audio routing without buying a physical interface.
- Zero-latency monitoring. A headphone jack on the mic lets you hear yourself with no delay while you talk.
- Stream Deck friendly. It pairs with a Stream Deck with no extra setup.
Where it falls short
- As a condenser, it hears more of your room than a dynamic mic would, so a loud fan or keyboard can reach the stream.
- The only connection is USB-C, so there is no XLR path if you later move to an audio interface.
Look elsewhere if
- Your room is noisy or you want to grow into XLR: the FIFINE AM8 is a dynamic mic with USB and XLR. If your voice is the product, as in podcasts or talk channels, the Shure MV7+ is the step up, with a dynamic capsule and USB-C plus XLR at the same time.
