Corsair RM850e (850W, Cybenetics Gold, modular)

Our analysis

On paper it matches the MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5: 850 W, Cybenetics Gold, fully modular, a 120 mm fan and a native 12V-2x6 cable. What separates them is the warranty, 7 years here against the 10 MSI lists, and a noise rating Corsair publishes, Cybenetics A. It is the 850 W member of the same RMe family as our 750 W pick, and the size our PSU calculator asks for once you move up to an RTX 5080.

What stands out

• 850 W with Gold efficiency. By our calculator, enough for a Ryzen 7 9800X3D with an RTX 5080, and one size of headroom for an RTX 5070 Ti build.
• Native 12V-2x6 cable. The 16-pin connector runs straight from the PSU to the card, with no adapter in between, the way ATX 3.1 intends.
• A 140 mm long body. Corsair lists it at 140 × 150 × 86 mm, the same as the 750 W and 1000 W models, so it fits compact ATX cases where longer units get tight.
• Zero RPM mode. The fan stays off at low load, according to Corsair.

Where it falls short

• It is Gold, not Platinum, so at full load it turns a little more power into heat than a Platinum unit would.
• With a mid-range card it is more power supply than you need today.

Look elsewhere if

• Your build tops out at an RTX 5070: the Corsair RM750e covers it with 750 W in the same body. If you pair an RTX 5080 with a Core i9 or you are planning an RTX 5090, go to the Corsair RM1000e.
