Corsair RM1000e (1000W, Cybenetics Gold, modular)

Our verdict

For the builds that need more than 850 W: an RTX 5080 with a Core i9-14900K, or an RTX 5090 at the minimum NVIDIA lists. Cybenetics Gold, fully modular, native 12V-2x6 and still only 140 mm long. Heads up: NVIDIA's 1000 W minimum for the 5090 assumes a Ryzen 9 9950X; our calculator asks for 1200 to 1300 W unless the processor is a 65 W one.

Our analysis

Against the MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5, the RM1000e adds 150 W, 1000 against 850, in the same 140 mm length and with the same native 12V-2x6 cable; MSI's US store lists the longer warranty, 10 years against Corsair's 7. Those extra 150 W are for the builds our PSU calculator puts above 850 W, such as an RTX 5080 with a Core i9-14900K. It is fully modular, Cybenetics Gold and ATX 3.1 certified.

What stands out

  • 1000 W: what our calculator asks for with an RTX 5080 and a Core i9-14900K, and exactly the minimum NVIDIA lists for a PC with an RTX 5090.
  • Native 12V-2x6 cable: the 16-pin connector of high-end cards plugs straight into the PSU, with no adapter, as ATX 3.1 intends.
  • The same 140 mm body: Corsair lists it at 140 x 150 x 86 mm, identical to the 750 W model, so going to 1000 W does not force a bigger case.
  • Zero RPM mode and a 120 mm fan: silent at low load; Corsair rates it Cybenetics A- for noise.
  • A 7-year warranty, the same as the rest of the family.

Where it falls short

With an RTX 5090 and a high-end processor our calculator asks for 1200 to 1300 W, so this unit meets NVIDIA's minimum but falls 200 to 300 W short of ours; with a 5090 it is only enough if the processor is a 65 W one. It is Gold, not Platinum. And with a mid-range card it runs far below its capacity, which only pays off if you plan to upgrade.

Look elsewhere if

You run an RTX 5070 Ti, or an RTX 5080 with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D: the Corsair RM850e is enough. For an RTX 5060 or RTX 5070, the Corsair RM750e.
