Our verdict
The 650W we point to when the calculator lands between 450 and 550W: fully modular, 80 Plus Gold, ATX 3.1 and a native 12V-2x6 cable rated up to 300W. It is not the one for an RTX 5070 Ti or bigger; for those, go to 750W or more.
Our analysis
Same 650 W as the Corsair RM650e, with a bigger fan, 135 mm against 120, in a longer body, 150 mm against 140. Corsair publishes a Cybenetics A++ noise rating and a 7-year warranty; MSI lists 80 Plus Gold and does not state the warranty for this model. It is the size our power supply calculator lands on for builds like a Ryzen 5 9600X with a Radeon RX 9060 XT, where the math gives 450 W, or 550 W with headroom.
What stands out
- A native 12V-2x6 cable. MSI rates it up to 300 W, and there are two 6+2-pin PCIe plugs on top of it, so cards with either connector type plug in without adapters.
- Fully modular. You only connect the cables your build uses, which makes routing easier in a compact case.
- 80 Plus Gold and ATX 3.1. MSI lists 80 Plus Gold (up to 90%) and ATX 3.1, with a 220% power excursion rating for very short spikes.
- A 135 mm fluid dynamic bearing fan. Bigger than the 120 mm fans of Corsair's RM650e and RM750e, on the bearing type MSI lists.
Where it falls short
- 650 W is the ceiling: NVIDIA asks for 750 W with an RTX 5070 Ti, so this is not the supply for that tier.
- The 12V-2x6 cable is rated for 300 W, half of what the 850 W version from the same family offers.
- MSI does not state the warranty length for this model on its pages, so we leave it out.
Look elsewhere if
- You plan a bigger card later: the MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5 has a 600 W 12V-2x6 cable and four 6+2-pin plugs.
- Noise is your priority: the Corsair RM750e has a zero RPM fan mode and Cybenetics Gold.
