PlayStation DualSense wireless controller in Midnight Black with USB-C cable

Our verdict

The sensible second controller for PS5 or a pad for PC: the full DualSense experience plus the cable the standalone box leaves out. No back buttons or trigger stops; for those, look at the DualSense Edge.

Our analysis

For a PC, the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 brings TMR sticks, two back buttons and a 2.4G dongle; the DualSense brings what PlayStation games are built around: haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, a touch pad and a built-in mic. This bundle is Sony's standard controller in its all-black finish with a USB-C cable in the box, the one to get as a second PS5 controller or a pad for your PC.

What stands out

  • Haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Two actuators replace the old rumble motors, and the triggers change resistance in supported games, according to PlayStation.
  • The cable comes in the box. PlayStation's standalone DualSense ships without a cable; this bundle includes the USB-C cable to charge it and to play wired on PC.
  • More than a PS5 controller. PlayStation lists support for Windows PC, Mac and phones over Bluetooth or USB-C, plus firmware updates from a PC with its PlayStation Accessories app.
  • Built-in microphone, touch pad and motion sensors, so you can chat and play without extra hardware.

Where it falls short

  • No back buttons, no swappable sticks and no trigger stops. Those are the DualSense Edge's features, not this one's.
  • On PC, PlayStation notes that haptic feedback and adaptive triggers may require the USB connection and only work in games that support them.

Look elsewhere if

You play competitive shooters and want back paddles or shorter trigger travel: the DualSense Edge adds them. To compare it with PC and Xbox options, see our best gaming controllers of 2026, and if stick drift worries you, read our guide to stick drift and stick types.

For me, this is the sensible pick for a second PS5 controller or a PC pad: the full DualSense experience and the cable you would have to buy anyway.
