GameSir G7 Pro 8K controller, black

Our verdict

Built for competitive PC play: 8000 Hz polling, second-generation TMR sticks and short-travel Hall triggers with stops. GameSir rates it at eight times the usual 1000 Hz; skip it if you mainly play on Xbox or PlayStation.

Our analysis

8000 Hz is the number that separates this pad from the 8BitDo Ultimate 2: both carry TMR sticks and two back buttons, and both connect over 2.4G, Bluetooth and USB, but GameSir rates the G7 Pro at 8000 Hz on PC, eight times the usual 1000 Hz. The 8BitDo answers with triggers you can switch between Hall and tactile.

What stands out

  • 8000 Hz polling: the pad reports the stick position every 0.125 ms, which is what matters in shooters that reward fine movement.
  • Second-generation TMR sticks: which GameSir designs against drift, with 4096 levels of resolution and a module rated for 5 million cycles, according to GameSir.
  • Short-travel Hall triggers with stops: less distance to fire, so you shoot sooner in games where the trigger is your main button.
  • Programmable buttons, including two on the back, plus a charging dock: you jump or reload without taking a thumb off the stick, and the dock keeps it topped up between sessions.

Where it falls short

It does not work on Xbox or PlayStation, which is its biggest limit. The 8000 Hz works on PC only, and it sits close to the price of console pro pads.

Look elsewhere if

You play on Xbox as well as PC: the Xbox Elite Series 2 Core adds adjustable stick tension and trigger locks with three steps, and its battery is rated for up to 40 hours. If you want drift-free sticks on PC for much less and do not need 8000 Hz, the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C brings Hall effect sticks and triggers at 1000 Hz.

We rank it among five controllers in our best gaming controllers guide, and our stick drift guide explains why TMR sticks matter.
