MSI B850 Gaming Plus WiFi motherboard, top view

Our verdict

The balanced ATX board for a Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 9: twelve-way VRM, Wi-Fi 7 and a 5 Gbps LAN port. Know the fine print: the third M.2 runs at half the lanes and the top memory speed assumes two sticks, not four.

Our analysis

Both this board and the GIGABYTE B650 Eagle AX are AM5 ATX boards with four DDR5 slots and three M.2, so the gap is in the connections: Wi-Fi 7 against Wi-Fi 6E, a 5 GbE port, and a 10 Gbps rear USB-C against 5 Gbps on the Eagle. With an internet plan above a gigabit, that wired port is the part that decides it.

What stands out

  • 5 GbE and Wi-Fi 7. Useful if your internet plan or home network goes beyond a gigabit, so the board is not the slowest link.
  • A twelve-way VRM. Power delivery sized for the Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 9 chips this board is meant for.
  • A steel-reinforced PCIe 5.0 x16 slot. The graphics card gets the newest slot generation and a sturdier slot to sit in.
  • Four DDR5 slots, up to 256 GB. Plenty of capacity if you also work or create on the same PC.

Where it falls short

  • The third M.2 runs at Gen4 x2, half the lanes of the other two, which are Gen5 x4 and Gen4 x4.
  • The 8200+ MT/s memory figure carries a 1DPC 1R note: it assumes two sticks, not four.
  • Rear USB-C tops out at 10 Gbps, and no USB4 is listed.

None of this is a flaw, just the usual trade-offs at this tier, and you should know them before paying.

Look elsewhere if

You need four full M.2 slots or USB4: the GIGABYTE X870 AORUS Elite WiFi 7 has both. If you want a faster rear USB-C and heatsinks on all three M.2, the ASUS TUF Gaming B650E-PLUS WiFi brings a 20 Gbps port.

What 1DPC 1R really means is box two in How to Choose a Motherboard in 2026.
