Our verdict

The Intel option for a Core Ultra Series 2 build on LGA1851: ATX, four DDR5 slots, PCIe 5.0 for the graphics card, Wi-Fi 6E and 2.5GbE at a mid-range price. It has two M.2 slots, not the three the Amazon title claims, so plan on two drives.

Our analysis

Will you ever add a second pair of memory sticks? That is the question this board answers against the ASRock B850M-X WiFi R2.0: four DDR5 slots on a full ATX board here, two on the ASRock's Micro-ATX, while both list Wi-Fi 6E, 2.5 GbE and two M.2 slots. The socket decides before any of that, though: Intel Core Ultra on this one, Ryzen on the ASRock.

What stands out

  • PCIe 5.0 for the graphics card. The same slot generation as the pricier AMD boards we list, on an Intel platform.
  • An 8+1+2 hybrid VRM. Fitting for a B860, the chipset our guide recommends for nearly everyone on the Intel side.
  • M.2 Thermal Guard and tool-free latches. Cooling for your drives and one less screwdriver job during the build.
  • Wi-Fi 6E and 2.5 GbE built in. Wireless and fast wired networking without buying an add-in card, plus rear USB-C.

Where it falls short

  • Only two M.2 slots (one PCIe 5.0, one PCIe 4.0), according to Gigabyte’s spec sheet. A third NVMe drive needs a board with more slots.
  • B860 is not the chipset for serious CPU overclocking; our guide points to Z890 for that.
  • Wi-Fi is 6E rather than 7, which the MSI B850 Gaming Plus offers on the AMD side.

Look elsewhere if

You have not locked in a platform and lean toward AMD: the ASUS TUF Gaming B650E-PLUS WiFi brings three M.2 slots with heatsinks and BIOS FlashBack. If you want Wi-Fi 7 and 5 Gbps networking, the MSI B850 Gaming Plus WiFi has both. Keep in mind both are AM5 boards, so they need a Ryzen, not an Intel chip.
