Our verdict
A way into custom-style keyboards: a gasket mount, hot-swappable switches with no soldering and an aluminum body, in a compact 75% that keeps the F row and arrows. It is wired only, and there is no Rapid Trigger.
Our analysis
Both this and the ASUS ROG Strix Scope II 96 Wireless use pre-lubed linear switches you can swap without soldering, and the layout is what separates them: the Alloy Rise is a 75% on a USB-C cable, with a gasket-mounted aluminum body, while the ASUS keeps the numpad in a 96% and connects over 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth or USB. It is our favorite way into custom-style keyboards without building one yourself, aimed at people who spend as much time writing as playing.
What stands out
- Gasket mount. The plate rests on gaskets instead of being screwed rigidly to the case, the mounting style custom keyboards use.
- Hot-swap with no soldering. You can try other switches later by pulling them out and pressing new ones in, so the keyboard grows with your taste.
- 75% layout. It squeezes a TKL into less space without dropping the F row or the arrows, which frees room for the mouse.
- RGB with an ambient light sensor. The lighting adjusts itself to the light in your room, so you are not fiddling with brightness between day and night.
Where it falls short
- It is wired only, over USB-C.
- It polls at 8000 Hz, but there is no Rapid Trigger or adjustable actuation.
- Like any 75%, it has no numpad, which matters if you work with numbers a lot.
Look elsewhere if
- You play competitive shooters and want Rapid Trigger: the SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL Gen 3 has magnetic switches adjustable from 0.1 to 4.0 mm and an aluminum top plate, but it is not hot-swappable. If you want hot-swap in an even smaller board, the RK Royal Kludge RK68 is a 65% that keeps the arrow keys, with RGB.
