Elgato Key Light (2800 lumens, for streaming)

Our analysis

The Govee G1 lights the wall behind your monitor; the Key Light lights your face. It is a 2800-lumen LED panel on a desk clamp with color temperature from 2900 to 7000 K, for anyone who streams, records or takes video calls. With your face well lit, the camera can lower its sensitivity, which means less grain, and the encoder spends its bitrate on the game instead of on noise.

What stands out

• 2800 lumens of diffused light. Per the manufacturer, 160 OSRAM LEDs sit behind opal glass, which spreads the light across your face instead of a single hot spot.
• Color temperature from 2900 to 7000 K. Warm it up to match a cozy room, or cool it down to blend with daylight from a window.
• Wi-Fi control from Elgato Control Center or a Stream Deck. You adjust brightness mid-stream without reaching for the panel.
• Desk clamp with a pole that extends to 49 inches. It takes no desk space and puts the light where your camera needs it.

Where it falls short

• It lights you, not the room: there is no RGB and no ambiance effect.
• It draws up to 45 W from its own power supply, so plan an outlet near the desk.

Look elsewhere if

• You want color and atmosphere behind the monitor rather than light on your face: the Govee Flow Plus gives you two RGBICWW bars with music sync. If you already run a Hue home, the Philips Hue Play adds game sync through Hue Sync.

It is stage two of our pro streaming setup, part by part, and the top pick in the five best Elgato products for creators.
