Our verdict
Made for PC monitors: an RGBIC strip on the back that syncs with what is on screen and lights the wall behind a bright panel in a dark room. It uses no desk space, which makes it the pick for small rooms.
Our analysis
The Govee Flow Plus puts two RGBICWW light bars on the desk and syncs with music and smart-home assistants; the G1 sticks an RGBIC strip to the back of a 27 to 34 inch monitor and syncs with what is on screen through Govee Desktop. One takes desk space and lights the room; the other takes none and lights the wall behind the display. That is why the G1 is our lighting pick for small rooms.
What stands out
- Screen sync. With Govee Desktop the LEDs follow the colors of what is on screen, so the wall changes with the game.
- Light behind the screen. Lighting the wall shrinks the jump in brightness between a bright screen and a dark room behind it.
- No desk footprint. It sticks to the monitor, so the corner you need for a notebook stays free.
- Several ways to control it. The Govee Home app, Govee Desktop, voice control and Razer Chroma support, so it can match the rest of your gear.
Where it falls short
- It lights the wall, not your face, so it does nothing for how you look on a webcam.
- It runs off its own power adapter, which means one more plug near the desk.
- It is designed for monitors, not TVs, and fit depends on your screen size, so check the supported sizes on the listing before you buy.
Look elsewhere if
- You play on a console hooked up to a TV: the Govee TV Backlight 3 Lite uses a camera to read the screen colors and mirror them on its strip. If your goal is looking good on stream, the Elgato Key Light is a 2800-lumen studio panel with adjustable color temperature that lights you, not the wall.
