Our analysis

Next to the HP Victus 15, the TUF F16 keeps the same 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB SSD and moves up on the two things you look at: a 16-inch 16:10 screen at 1920 × 1200 and 144 Hz against 15.6 inches at 1920 × 1080, and an RTX 4050 against an RTX 3050. It is the balanced laptop just below the mid range, and its argument is the screen and the chassis more than the graphics card.

What stands out

• 16:10 at 1920 × 1200. The extra vertical space shows more of a document, a timeline or a strategy map without scrolling.
• RTX 4050 with DLSS 3. DLSS renders at a lower resolution and rebuilds the image, which helps hold high settings at 1080p.
• MIL-STD-810H chassis. ASUS lists the US military test standard, aimed at a laptop that rides in a backpack every day.
• Two self-cleaning fans and keyboard backlighting. Practical details for long sessions and for typing with the lights off.

Where it falls short

• The 512 GB SSD is small for a modern games library, so plan on a bigger drive.
• Our spec sheet lists no color gamut for this panel, so for photo or design work a screen with published color figures is the safer bet.
• The configuration in our spec sheet lists 8 GB of RAM, half of what the Lenovo LOQ 15 ships with.

Look elsewhere if

• Gaming performance is the priority: the Lenovo LOQ 15 moves up to an RTX 5060, gains DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation and doubles the RAM to 16 GB. If you also edit photos or video, the Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16 OLED has a 2560 × 1600 OLED at 165 Hz.
