Our verdict
The fix when the problem is distance, not the router: a three-node Wi-Fi 7 mesh that covers up to 6600 square feet as one network, with 2.5 Gbps ports on each node to wire the console in the far room. Overkill for a small apartment.
Our analysis
613 m² against the 186 m² TP-Link lists for its Archer BE550: more than three times the area, spread over three units instead of one box. The BE550 keeps a 6 GHz band for a gaming machine; the Deco trades that band for reach. If your desk is in the far room, reach is the number that decides.
What stands out
- One network across the house. The three nodes act as one mesh, so moving between rooms does not mean reconnecting.
- 2.5 Gbps ports on every node. Place a node next to your setup and run a short cable to the console or PC.
- Wi-Fi 7 at BE5000. Rated up to 5000 Mbps across its 2.4 and 5 GHz bands.
- It targets the real problem. Router power does not beat thick concrete walls; a second broadcast point near you does.
Where it falls short
- It is dual-band only. There is no 6 GHz band to keep free for a gaming machine.
- TP-Link lists QoS by device through HomeShield, but no game accelerator or dedicated gaming port like a gaming router has.
- In a small apartment, three nodes are more than you need.
Look elsewhere if
Your setup is already close to the router and several people share the line: the ASUS TUF Gaming BE6500 adds Game Accelerator and a dedicated gaming port. If you live in a small place and only want to retire your provider's box, the TP-Link Archer BE230 is the entry Wi-Fi 7 router in our list, with two 2.5 Gbps ports.
When mesh beats a single router, and when a cable beats both, is in our guide to the best gaming router of 2026.
