Our verdict
Our gaming router pick for most homes: Wi-Fi 7 up to 6.5 Gbps, four 2.5 Gbps ports and game prioritization that ASUS says sends game traffic first. The logical buy for a house where several people share one connection.
Our analysis
Both this router and the TP-Link Archer BE230 are dual-band Wi-Fi 7, and the rating is what separates them: BE6500 here against BE3600. The ASUS adds Game Accelerator and a dedicated gaming port; the TP-Link lists 186 m² of coverage, a figure our spec sheet does not have for this ASUS.
What stands out
- Game Accelerator: ASUS says the router recognizes game data and sends it ahead of downloads and video, which is what matters on a shared connection.
- Dedicated gaming port: whatever you plug into it, a console or a PC, gets priority automatically, with no manual rules.
- Four 2.5 Gbps ports, three of them LAN: room to plug in by cable the console or PC you care about most instead of leaving everything on wireless.
- AiProtection for life: it comes included with no subscription, so there is no recurring fee hiding behind the purchase.
Where it falls short
Our spec sheet has no coverage figure for it, so for a two-story house a mesh system is the safer bet. And it is dual-band only, without the separate 6 GHz band that tri-band models keep free for one device.
Look elsewhere if
Your problem is distance rather than congestion: the TP-Link Deco BE5000 mesh uses three nodes to cover up to 613 m² as one network. If you have fast fiber and many devices, the TP-Link Archer BE550 adds that 6 GHz band and four LAN ports, though it is more router than a one-gigabit plan needs.
We explain when Wi-Fi 7 is enough and when a cable still wins in our gaming router guide, where the BE6500 is the main pick.
