Our verdict

Gaming speakers that match the desk: 32 W of peak power, a diffused RGB ring and three EQ modes on the unit. Inputs are USB, AUX and Bluetooth; for bigger drivers, the R1280DBs carry 102 mm.

Our analysis

An RGB ring and 70 mm drivers are what this pair adds over the Creative Pebble V3, the other stereo pair with Bluetooth and AUX in our catalog, which uses 57 mm drivers and no lighting. The Pebble runs on a single USB-C cable; these bring their own light, so they matter most on a desk that is already lit.

What stands out

  • 32 W of peak power. That is Edifier’s peak figure for the pair, not an RMS rating, so compare it only with other peak numbers.
  • USB, AUX and Bluetooth 5.1. Plug the PC into one input and a console into another, then stream music from your phone, all without swapping cables.
  • Three EQ modes on the speaker. You switch sound profiles with the physical controls, with no software to install or open.
  • Diffused RGB. Edifier describes the ring as diffused light, worth knowing when the speakers sit right beside your monitor.

Where it falls short

  • There is no subwoofer in the box, so the bass depends on the 70 mm drivers until you add one through its subwoofer output.
  • If you want bigger drivers, the R1280DBs carry 102 mm against 70 mm, in wooden cabinets.

Look elsewhere if

Sound matters more than styling and you have the desk space: the Edifier R1280DBs add an optical input to run straight off a TV or monitor. If you want a subwoofer on a smaller setup, the Creative Pebble Plus is a 2.1 system with a down-firing subwoofer that runs on USB power.
