Creative Pebble V3 USB-C desktop speakers, front view

Our verdict

A low-cost step up from laptop speakers: drivers angled up toward you, power and audio over one USB-C cable, and Bluetooth for your phone. There is no subwoofer; for more low end, look at the Pebble Plus 2.1.

Our analysis

The Edifier R1280DBs shows what more money buys in a 2.0 pair: 102 mm drivers against 57 mm, 42 W against 8 W, and optical, coaxial and RCA inputs. The Pebble V3 goes the other way: one USB-C cable for power and audio, which is what a laptop or a small desk with a single free port needs.

What stands out

  • One USB-C cable for power and audio. A single connection to the PC and nothing else on a small desk.
  • Drivers angled 45 degrees up. Creative tilts them toward the listener instead of across the desk.
  • Bluetooth 5.0. Switch to your phone for music or a video without unplugging anything from the computer.
  • 57 mm drivers and up to 8 W RMS (16 W peak). On paper, the same RMS rating as the Pebble Plus 2.1, without its subwoofer.
  • A 3.5 mm AUX input. A backup for any device that does not connect over USB-C.

Where it falls short

  • There is no subwoofer, so the low end comes only from two 57 mm drivers.
  • Like any speakers, if you talk on Discord while gaming, your mic can pick up the game audio and your teammates hear an echo; a dynamic microphone or echo cancellation fixes that.

Look elsewhere if

  • You want more low end for action games and movies: the Creative Pebble Plus 2.1 adds a 4-inch down-firing subwoofer and still runs on USB. If you want speakers that match an RGB desk and can be shared between a PC and a console, the Edifier G2000 RGB offers 32 W of peak power, three EQ modes and USB, AUX and Bluetooth inputs.
