Creative Pebble Plus 2.1 Desktop Speakers, front view

Our verdict

Budget desk speakers with a subwoofer: a 4-inch down-firing sub takes the low frequencies the 51 mm desk drivers cannot, and it all runs on USB with no wall adapter. At 8 W RMS, the sub adds low end, not loudness.

Our analysis

The Edifier G2000 puts bigger drivers on the desk, 70 mm against 51, and adds Bluetooth 5.1; the Pebble Plus keeps its desk speakers small and moves the low end to a 4-inch subwoofer under the desk, with no Bluetooth. Edifier lists 32 W peak and Creative 8 W RMS, two figures measured differently, so they do not compare directly. The Pebble Plus runs on USB power with no wall adapter.

What stands out

  • A 4-inch down-firing subwoofer. A 51 mm driver is too small to move much air at low frequencies; the sub takes over that range, which is where action games and movies put their explosions.
  • USB power. No power brick to fit on a crowded power strip, one less thing to plug into the wall.
  • A 2.1 setup with 51 mm drivers. Two small speakers on the desk and the sub out of sight underneath, so the desk stays uncluttered.
  • A 3.5 mm AUX input. Audio arrives over a standard analog jack that almost any PC has.

Where it falls short

  • Creative rates it at 8 W RMS, the same as the Pebble V3, so the sub adds low end, not loudness.
  • There is no Bluetooth, which the Pebble V3 does have.
  • If you play with speakers and talk on Discord, your mic can pick up the game audio and send your team an echo, so budget for a dynamic microphone.

Look elsewhere if

  • You switch between PC and phone: the Creative Pebble V3 adds Bluetooth 5.0 and a single USB-C cable for power and audio. If you have the space, the Edifier R1280DBs step up to bookshelf cabinets with 4-inch drivers and an optical input.
