Our verdict
A low-cost way into mechanical keyboards: red linear switches and a compact 68-key layout at a budget price. A good fit as a first mechanical or a laptop companion; the single-color backlight and the lack of hot-swap are where it saves.
Our analysis
Do you use the F keys? That is the question between this board and the Redragon K552 Kumara. Both use red linear switches and neither lists hot-swap, but the MK-Box has 68 keys against the K552's 87: it drops the F row and the navigation block to free desk space, while the K552 keeps them in a TKL layout with a metal top plate.
What stands out
- Red linear switches. Each press travels straight down with no bump and no click, the switch type of most budget gaming boards.
- Compact 68-key layout. Dropping the number pad and the F row frees desk space for wider mouse movements, and the small footprint fits in a backpack.
- Wired USB-C. A reversible connector and no batteries.
- Single-color LED backlight. Enough to find your keys in a dark room, with no RGB effects.
Where it falls short
- Its lighting is where the savings show: one color only, no RGB.
- Hot-swap sockets do not appear in its spec sheet, while the Redragon K617 Fizz and the RK68 list them, so changing switches later is not a simple pull-and-plug job. And it is wired only.
Look elsewhere if
- You want RGB and the freedom to swap switches: the Redragon K617 Fizz adds both, with 3- and 5-pin hot-swap, in an even smaller 60% board. If starting to mod is the goal, the RK Royal Kludge RK68 is a 65% with hot-swap sockets and RGB.
We compare it with the other entry boards in the 5 best budget gaming keyboards of 2026, and it appears as an alternative in our gifts for gamers guide.
