Thermal Paste · ARCTIC
Our verdict
Non-conductive paste that will not harm the board if it slips, and the cooler's pressure spreads it for you. Buy the 8 g tube if you look after more than one PC, compare its price with the 4 g on the day you buy, and repaste a three-year-old tower before blaming the cooler.
Our analysis
Same ARCTIC MX-6 compound as the 4 g tube, in twice the amount: an 8 g syringe of thermal paste for anyone building a PC or bringing an older tower back to normal temperatures. Its defining trait is safety, because it is neither electrically conductive nor capacitive; the size only decides how many builds it covers.
What stands out
- Non-conductive and non-capacitive. If a drop slides off the edge of the processor's lid, it will not short anything on the motherboard. That makes it forgiving on a first build.
- Easy to apply. It is thick, so you do not spread it by hand: the pressure of the cooler does that, which takes the stress out of a first application.
- The 8 g tube lasts. Enough to repaste three or four builds with some left over, which suits anyone who looks after more than one PC.
- A pricing quirk worth knowing. At our September 2026 check, the 8 g tube was cheaper than the 4 g one. Compare both sizes on the day you buy.
Where it falls short
Paste only fixes a contact problem. Our temperature guide explains that paste dries out after three or four years, and replacing it restores the link between processor and cooler. If the cooler is too small for the chip, or hot air has nowhere to go, fresh paste will not change that.
Look elsewhere if
You already repasted and temperatures are still high. Then the next suspect is airflow: with one exhaust fan, a case makes the cooler breathe its own heat, and adding intake fans is the following step in our guide. Only after that does a new cooler make sense. Browse our thermal paste category or line up parts in the comparison tool.
The full order of fixes, from paste to airflow to hardware, is in safe CPU and GPU temperatures in 2026. Start with the paste: dried-out compound is the first thing we would check on a three-year-old tower that suddenly runs hot.
